A simple model that shows how the human eye keeps an image for a short moment – and how two images seen quickly one after the other appear as one combined picture.

What it shows

• The retina keeps the image of an object for only about 1/16th of a second
• If another image falls on the retina within this time, the two images are superimposed and we see the combined image
